Die K\u00f6nige der Shang-Dynastie in China versuchten es vor etwa 3200 Jahren mit Scapulimantik, der Schulterblatt-Divination, um ihre besser informierten Vorfahren zu konsultieren. Sie lie\u00dfen ihre Fragen auf die Schulterknochen von Rindern schreiben. Zum Beispiel so: entlang der einen Seite des Knochens \u201eIm Ort X bekommt man eine gute Ernte\u201c, entlang der anderen Seite \u201eIm Ort X bekommt man keine gute Ernte\u201c. Sie fragten mitunter auch viel konkreter nach dem Verursacher von Zahnweh oder ob mit der Opferung von zwei oder f\u00fcnf Rindern f\u00fcr diesen oder jenen Gott freundliche Unterst\u00fctzung bei einem Vorhaben zu erwirken sei.<br \/>Im freien Raum zwischen den Schriftspalten wurden gl\u00fchende St\u00e4be in vorgebohrte L\u00f6cher gepresst, die Hitze lie\u00df den Knochen hierhin oder dorthin rei\u00dfen. Doch der K\u00f6nig selbst musste die Risse, also die Antwort der Ahnen, interpretieren und verk\u00fcnden, was zu tun sei. Es lag in seiner Verantwortung zu entscheiden, sich auf Lieferungen aus jenem Ort X zu verlassen (oder auch nicht), und diesem Vorvater (oder einem anderen) zu Ehren ein Bankett auszurichten, damit er das Ziehen am Zahn lie\u00dfe. Die Voraussage des K\u00f6nigs und wie die Sache tats\u00e4chlich ausging, notierten die Schreiber auf demselben Schulterblatt \u2013 dann archivierten sie es.<br \/>Manche der Blattsammlungen wurden von Arch\u00e4ologen entdeckt und vermitteln uns einen Eindruck von den Anfragen und Absichten lange vergangener Generationen. all like to know what the New Year of the Ox will be like and how to make it well and successful. There has always been a desire to predict the future. Already 3200 years ago, the kings of the Shang dynasty in China made use of scapulimancy, the shoulder blade divination, to consult with their more informed ancestors. This was done in the following way: On one side of the bone they wrote, for example, &#8222;in place X there will be a good harvest&#8220;, on the other &#8222;in place X you will not have a good harvest.&#8220; Sometimes the questions were much more specific, such as whether the sacrifice of two or five cows would secure a god&#8217;s friendliness; or which ancestor is angry and sends the tormenting toothache. In the space between the two lines of texts, hot rods were inserted into pre-drilled holes, the heat of which made the bone crack in one direction or the other. However, the king himself had to interpret the answer of the ancestors and proclaim what to do. It took personal responsibility to decide whether to rely (or not) on a crop from the place X; organize a banquet in honor of one or another ancestor, so that he would stop torturing the tooth. In some cases, the decision and how it all ended was also noted by the scribes on the same shoulder blade. Some of these ancient archives have been unearthed by archaeologists and have conveyed to us the issues and aspirations of generations long gone.
