Especially in historical archeological photographs, male workers or children often stand next to the archaeological finds like an inanimate object, serving as a scale. In this photo, which we selected for the Photo of the Month Series, a woman poses with all her elegance next to an architectural piece, as an individual rather than a scale. This photograph was taken by F. von Holbach in 1910 who was working for the Ottoman Tobacco Regime and we assume that this beautiful enigmatic woman was his wife. With this photograph we would like to celebrate the International Women’s Day by paying tribute to the many female archaeologists who devoted their lives to archaeology both in front of the camera and behind the scene.<\/p>
