Our Photo of the Month from our archives for September comes from shows the Red Hall Basilica in Pergamon, visible in the background. The Red Hall is one of the largest and most impressive preserved Roman structures in Anatolia and a rare example of Egyptian architectural tradition in Anatolia. Notably, the people posing for the photographer and the beautiful houses leaning against the walls of the Red Hall draw attention away from the monumental building itself. Unfortunately, we do not know what brought these people together; perhaps the two gentlemen in the front were travellers, and the group in the background were inhabitants of Bergama; the little boy, who is barely visible in the majestic entrance of the Red Hall in the background, may have entered the frame out of simple curiosity.<\/div><\/div>
Those who visit the Red Hall today will see that it it still looks very much the same, though its surroundings have changed considerably over the years. For example, the houses were removed In the course of archaeological excavations, and today this same area is used to exhibit architectural elements recovered during excavations by the Museum of Bergama. During recent excavations, a colourful mosaic floor was also found in this area, adding to our interest in the surroundings of this building. Thanks to the many decades of restoration works carried out by the Turkish state and the German Archaeological Institute, the Red Hall is still standing in all its glory as one of the most impressive structures in Bergama and at its UNESCO World Heritage site.<\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Ar\u015fivimizden ay\u0131n foto\u01e7raf\u0131 serisi i\u00e7in se\u00e7ti\u011fimiz g\u00f6rselin ba\u015frol\u00fc, arka planda g\u00f6z\u00fcken K\u0131z\u0131l Avlu\u2019ya aittir. K\u0131z\u0131l Avlu, ayakta kalm\u0131\u015f en etkileyici Roma yap\u0131lar\u0131ndan biridir ve M\u0131s\u0131r mimari gelene\u01e7inin Anadolu\u2019daki izlerini sunan nadir bir \u00f6rnektir. Foto\u01e7raf\u00e7\u0131ya poz veren insanlar ve K\u0131z\u0131l Avlu\u2019nun duvarlar\u0131na sokulmu\u015f bu g\u00fczel evler ise adeta an\u0131tsal yap\u0131dan rol \u00e7alar. G\u00fcne\u015ften bunalm\u0131\u015f bu insanlar\u0131 biraraya getiren sebepleri bilemiyoruz. Belki \u00f6ndeki beyefendiler, tarih merakl\u0131s\u0131 iki ziyaret\u00e7idir. Arkadaki grup poz vermek i\u00e7in g\u00fcnl\u00fck i\u015flerine ara vermi\u015f Bergamal\u0131lar olmal\u0131. En arka planda K\u0131z\u0131l Avlu\u2019nun heybetli giri\u015finde zar zor se\u00e7ilen minik \u00e7ocuk ise s\u0131rf meraktan, kimseden habersiz kadraja girmi\u015f gibidir.<\/div><\/div>
Bug\u00fcn K\u0131z\u0131l Avlu\u2019yu ziyaret edenler yap\u0131y\u0131 neredeyse foto\u01e7raftaki gibi; etraf\u0131n\u0131 ise epey de\u01e7i\u015fmi\u015folarak bulurlar. Evlerin olu\u015fturdu\u01e7u doku, arkeolojik ara\u015ft\u0131rmalarla birlikte ortadan kalkm\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. Bu alanda, kaz\u0131lar sonucu g\u00fcn y\u00fcz\u00fcne \u00e7\u0131kart\u0131lm\u0131\u015f mimari par\u00e7alar sergilenmektedir. K\u0131z\u0131l Avlu, K\u00fclt\u00fcr ve Turizm Bakanl\u0131\u01e7\u0131, Bergama M\u00fczesi, \u0130zmir R\u00f6l\u00f6ve ve An\u0131tlar M\u00fcd\u00fcrl\u00fc\u01e7\u00fc ve Alman Arkeoloji Enstit\u00fcs\u00fc taraf\u0131ndan y\u00fcr\u00fct\u00fclen ve on y\u0131llar boyunca devam eden kaz\u0131 ve restorasyon \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar\u0131 ile ba\u015fta Bergama ve sonra d\u00fcnya k\u00fclt\u00fcr miras\u0131n\u0131n en ilgin\u00e7 yap\u0131lar\u0131ndan biri olarak t\u00fcm ihti\u015fam\u0131 ile ayaktad\u0131r. \u00c7evresinde bu y\u0131l ger\u00e7ekle\u015ftirilen arkeolojik kaz\u0131larda ortaya \u00e7\u0131kart\u0131lan rengarenk mozaik taban ise K\u0131z\u0131l Avlu\u2019nun etraf\u0131n\u0131, kendisi kadar ilgin\u00e7 k\u0131lmaktad\u0131r!<\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
