In the photo of the month, we see the young librarian Ali Akkaya working at the typewriter in the old building of our institute in S\u0131raselviler. Before the digital cataloging system was introduced in 2001, every record of the library was typed and reproduced manually. In 1989, when the Istanbul Department of the German Archeological Institute moved to its current location in the German Consulate building and when this photo was taken, Ali Akkaya had already completed 15 years in the library. So he contributed greatly to many physical and technical changes that our library went through for 43 years until his retirement in 2017. When such a long work-life is combined with a strong memory, the phenomenon \u201cmemory of the place\u201d becomes flesh and bone. We feel very lucky to be able to benefit from Ali Bey’s vivid memory and experiences even today.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Alman Arkeoloji Enstit\u00fcs\u00fc \u0130stanbul \u015eubesi, bug\u00fcn bulundu\u011fu Alman Konsoloslu\u011fu binas\u0131ndaki yerine ta\u015f\u0131nd\u0131\u011f\u0131 ve ayn\u0131 zamanda bu foto\u011fraf\u0131n da \u00e7ekildi\u011fi y\u0131l olan 1989\u2019da Ali Akkaya, k\u00fct\u00fcphanede 15 y\u0131l\u0131n\u0131 doldurmu\u015ftu bile. 2017 y\u0131l\u0131nda emekli olana dek 43 y\u0131l boyunca k\u00fct\u00fcphanemizin ge\u00e7irdi\u011fi fiziksel ve teknik bir\u00e7ok de\u011fi\u015fiklikte kendisinin \u00e7ok b\u00fcy\u00fck eme\u011fi vard\u0131r. Bunca uzun bir \u00e7al\u0131\u015fma hayat\u0131 g\u00fc\u00e7l\u00fc bir haf\u0131zayla da birle\u015fince, \u201cmekan\u0131n belle\u011fi\u201d kavram\u0131 ete kemi\u011fe b\u00fcr\u00fcn\u00fcyor. Ali Bey\u2019in canl\u0131 haf\u0131zas\u0131ndan ve tecr\u00fcbelerinden hala yararlanabildi\u011fimiz i\u00e7in kendimizi \u00e7ok \u015fansl\u0131 hissediyoruz.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
