My father was a taxi driver. He was bringing mosaic masters from Sungurlu to the Bo\u011fazk\u00f6y excavations. On 15.06.1975 the construction works of the excavation house were just finished. When I was 14 years old, during the summer vacation I found myself in Bo\u011fazk\u00f6y. I helped install the sinks, mirrors, and electrical equipment in the rooms of the new excavation house. Exactly a month later, excavations began in the Lower City of Bo\u011fazk\u00f6y. I was promoted from construction site to excavation site. My first job was to wash ceramics. First of all, we built a ceramic garden where we classified the ceramics from the excavated areas according to their trench numbers. At that time, ceramics were put in nail boxes. These boxes were reinforced with metal sheet strips. The strips often cut our hands. Boehmer Bey (Rainer Michael Boehmer) was responsible for the ceramic garden. Because I was so small he used to call me “Little Hac\u0131”(tr. K\u00fc\u00e7\u00fck Hac\u0131). During the excavation season in 1976 I worked in the ceramic garden again. While I was washing ceramics, a thin-walled plate with incised pattern caught my attention. There were patterns on it that I could not identify. I immediately took it to Mr. Boehmer. He was very happy to see the piece. The next day he showed me a book in which a similar piece was published. He was grateful for my interest. We always had a good relationship with him. Boehmer had a beautiful Mercedes. One day, our excavation photographer G. Krien-Kummrow, and our small finds illustrator C. Hasse Bey got into his Mercedes and they invited me to the car. We set out for the famous Roma Ice Cream Shop, run by a Balkan immigrant family in Sungurlu. Since I was just a child, my mind was on ice cream, but at the same time, I felt that my presence in that car would be the first sign of my long-lasting work in Bo\u011fazk\u00f6y. Indeed, for many years, I have worked there as a draftsman. I met many valuable people like Peter Neve, Kurt Bittel, J\u00fcrgen Seeher, and Andreas Schachner. I saw countless finds. The excavation site was for me a gateway to the world from my small village, which is located in the Bogazk\u00f6y excavation site.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Babam taksiciydi. Sungurlu\u2019dan mozaik ustalar\u0131n\u0131 Bo\u011fazk\u00f6y kaz\u0131s\u0131na getirip g\u00f6t\u00fcr\u00fcyordu. 15.06.1975 tarihinde kaz\u0131 evi in\u015faat\u0131 yeni bitmi\u015fti. 14 ya\u015f\u0131mda, yaz tatilindeyken kendimi Bo\u011fazk\u00f6y\u2018de buldum. Kaz\u0131 evinin odalar\u0131ndaki lavabolar\u0131n, aynalar\u0131n ve elektrik aksam\u0131n\u0131n tak\u0131lmas\u0131na yard\u0131m etmi\u015ftim. Tam bir ay sonra A\u015fa\u011f\u0131 \u015eehir\u2019de kaz\u0131 ba\u015flad\u0131. \u0130n\u015faat i\u015flerinden kaz\u0131ya terfi etmi\u015ftim. \u0130lk i\u015fim seramik y\u0131kamakt\u0131. \u00d6ncelikle kaz\u0131lan alanlardan gelen seramikleri a\u00e7ma numaralar\u0131na g\u00f6re tasnif etti\u011fimiz bir seramik bah\u00e7esi yapt\u0131k. O zamanlar seramikler \u00e7ivi sand\u0131klar\u0131na konuyordu. Bu sand\u0131klar metal sa\u00e7tan \u015feritlerle sa\u011flamla\u015ft\u0131r\u0131lm\u0131\u015ft\u0131. Bu \u015feritler s\u0131k s\u0131k elimizi keserdi. Seramik bah\u00e7esinden Boehmer Bey (Prof. Dr. Rainer Michael Boehmer) sorumluydu. O kadar k\u00fc\u00e7\u00fckt\u00fcm ki; bana \u201eK\u00fc\u00e7\u00fck Hac\u0131\u201c diye hitap ederdi. 1976 kaz\u0131 sezonunda yine seramik bah\u00e7esindeydim. Seramik y\u0131karken \u00e7izgi bezemeli, ince cidarl\u0131 bir tabak par\u00e7as\u0131 dikkatimi \u00e7ekti. \u00dczerinde tan\u0131mlayamad\u0131\u011f\u0131m fig\u00fcrler vard\u0131. Hemen Boehmer Bey\u2019e g\u00f6t\u00fcrd\u00fcm. Par\u00e7ay\u0131 g\u00f6r\u00fcnce \u00e7ok sevindi. Ertesi g\u00fcn bana bu par\u00e7an\u0131n bas\u0131l\u0131 oldu\u011fu kitab\u0131 g\u00f6sterdi. Dikkatim i\u00e7in te\u015fekk\u00fcr etti. Sonra onunla hep iyi bir ili\u015fkimiz oldu. Boehmer\u2019in g\u00fczel bir Mercedes\u2018i vard\u0131. Birg\u00fcn kaz\u0131 foto\u011fraf\u00e7\u0131m\u0131z G. Krien- Kummrow, k\u00fc\u00e7\u00fck buluntu \u00e7izimcimiz C. Hasse Bey ile birlikte bindikleri arabaya beni de \u00e7a\u011f\u0131rd\u0131lar. Sungurlu\u2019da Balkan g\u00f6\u00e7meni bir ailenin i\u015fletti\u011fi me\u015fhur Roma Dondurmac\u0131s\u0131\u2018na do\u011fru yola \u00e7\u0131kt\u0131k. \u00c7ocuk oldu\u011fum i\u00e7in akl\u0131m dondurmadayd\u0131 ama ayn\u0131 zamanda o g\u00fcn o arabadaki varl\u0131\u011f\u0131m\u0131n, ilerde Bo\u011fazk\u00f6y kaz\u0131s\u0131 i\u00e7in y\u0131llar boyunca \u00e7izim yapaca\u011f\u0131m\u0131n ilk i\u015fareti olaca\u011f\u0131n\u0131 hissediyordum. Ger\u00e7ekten de burada \u00e7al\u0131\u015ft\u0131\u011f\u0131m uzun y\u0131llar boyunca Peter Neve, Kurt Bittel, J\u00fcrgen Seeher, Andreas Schachner ve daha sayamayaca\u011f\u0131m pek \u00e7ok de\u011ferli insanla tan\u0131\u015ft\u0131m. Say\u0131s\u0131z buluntu g\u00f6rd\u00fcm.
