After Mansel, Turkey’s first female archaeologist, Prof. Dr. Jale İnan, continued the excavations. In addition to sacred buildings such as the temples of Apollo, Athena, and Dionysus, the site includes secular squares and buildings such as the agora, theatre, colonnaded street, residential buildings, baths, defensive walls, gates, and squares, which provide a valuable insight into the infrastructure of an ancient city. In recent years, repairs on the façade of the southern stoa have been completed. In addition, excavations in and around the Hamam Gymnasium complex are continuing.

The lecture will present and classify the latest results of urban archaeological research on the ancient Side.

The hybrid event will be held in German.

THURSDAY, 07.03.2024, 18:00 (16:00 CET)

Die Siedlungsgeschichte von Side im Lichte der Stadtarchäologischen Forschung

Prof. Dr. Feriştah Alanyalı

Registration

Physical Participation (registration by 15:00 on the day of the lecture):

https://terminplaner6.dfn.de/b/4ba777b2962ecb9b899c22a119e53bf1-623811

Online Participation:

https://dainst-org.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJwtcuyorj0rGtB0enEjD7yTqAon3jLAu-L3

The city of Side is located in the ancient landscape of Pamphylia and is one of the archaeological sites that provide a special overview of the urban infrastructure of an ancient city.
