Since then, research into this period has continued through annual archaeological expeditions and individual scholars’ initiatives. Large-scale excavations have been conducted periodically in response to major infrastructure projects, resulting in a comparatively large but under-studied material base. This lecture will outline the research history and provide insights into current attempts to gain a deeper understanding of the material culture of the region, its chronology, and its relationships with neighbouring regions of the Southern Caucasus.

Graphic: B.
