Recent decades have seen a great expansion of attention to the production, distribution, and consumption of transport amphoras throughout the Mediterranean. This expansion is due in part to the encouragement of the PATABS conferences, the welcoming setting of the IARPotHP conferences, where an increasing number of papers are concerned with amphoras, and the amphora-focused conferences in Athens (2004, 2010) and Berlin (2018). In addition, it is worth noting the increasing frequency with which articles related to amphoras appear in Turkish journals and the acts of regional archaeological conferences in Greece. The breadth of fabric analyses coupled with typological research on pre-Roman amphoras in the western Mediterranean has likewise inspired new research questions and led to radical reconsideration of amphora studies from Corinth westward as far as the gateway to the Atlantic. The FACEM website has played a crucial role in this process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Against this backdrop of progress, we are proposing a series of two-day conferences bringing together researchers to share new discoveries, address broader long-standing issues, and explore new paths for future studies.<\/p>\n\n\n

This conference is the first of a planned three such meetings (Istanbul, Rome and Thessaloniki) aimed at highlighting new research programs and attendant issues arising in each region.\u00a0The first conference, hosted at the German Archaeological Institute (DAI) in Istanbul will feature two days of presentations on November 13 and 14, 2024<\/strong>.\u00a0While a significant goal of all three meetings is to bring people together, to share ideas, and develop lasting collaborations, we understand that travel is not possible for all interested participants. The conference will be set up for hybrid participation so that some papers can be delivered remotely and the proceedings may be followed online. While the conference is open to the public, registration is required both for in-person and online attendance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Son y\u0131llarda, Akdeniz\u2019de ticari amphoralar\u0131n \u00fcretimi, da\u011f\u0131l\u0131m\u0131 ve t\u00fcketimine olan ilgi b\u00fcy\u00fck bir art\u0131\u015f g\u00f6stermi\u015ftir. Bu ilgi art\u0131\u015f\u0131, k\u0131smen PATABS konferanslar\u0131n\u0131n \u00f6nayak olmas\u0131, IARPotHP konferanslar\u0131n\u0131n amphora \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar\u0131 i\u00e7in davetkar ortam\u0131 ve Atina (2004, 2010) ile Berlin’deki (2018) amphora odakl\u0131 konferanslar\u0131n katk\u0131s\u0131yla ger\u00e7ekle\u015fmi\u015ftir. Bu konferanslar\u0131n yan\u0131 s\u0131ra, son y\u0131llarda T\u00fcrkiye’deki akademik dergilerde ve Yunanistan’daki b\u00f6lgesel arkeoloji konferanslar\u0131nda amphoralar ile ilgili bildiri ve makalelerin artmas\u0131 da dikkat \u00e7ekicidir. Bununla birlikte, Bat\u0131 Akdeniz’deki Roma D\u00f6nemi \u00f6ncesi amphoralar \u00fczerine yap\u0131lan tipolojik \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar ve kil analizlerinin art\u0131\u015f\u0131, yeni ara\u015ft\u0131rma sorular\u0131n\u0131n do\u011fmas\u0131na vesile olmu\u015f ve Korint’ten Atlantik’e kadar uzanan alandaki amphora \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar\u0131n\u0131n radikal bir \u015fekilde yeniden g\u00f6zden ge\u00e7irilmesine yol a\u00e7m\u0131\u015ft\u0131r. Bu heyecan verici geli\u015fmeler \u0131\u015f\u0131\u011f\u0131nda, yeni ke\u015fifleri payla\u015fmak, uzun s\u00fcredir devam eden ve tart\u0131\u015f\u0131lan geni\u015f sorunlar\u0131 ele almak ve gelecekteki \u00e7al\u0131\u015fmalar i\u00e7in yeni yollar ke\u015ffetmek \u00fczere ara\u015ft\u0131rmac\u0131lar\u0131 bir araya getiren, iki g\u00fcnl\u00fck konferanslar dizisi d\u00fczenlemeyi planl\u0131yoruz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u0130stanbul’da ger\u00e7ekle\u015ftirilecek olan konferans, her b\u00f6lgede ortaya \u00e7\u0131kan yeni ara\u015ft\u0131rma programlar\u0131n\u0131 ve ilgili konular\u0131 \u00f6ne \u00e7\u0131karmay\u0131 ama\u00e7layan, planlanan \u00fc\u00e7 toplant\u0131n\u0131n (\u0130stanbul, Roma ve Selanik) ilkidir ve 13 ve 14 Kas\u0131m’da Alman Arkeoloji Enstit\u00fcs\u00fc \u0130stanbul \u015eubesi’nin<\/strong> ev sahipli\u011finde ger\u00e7ekle\u015ftirilecektir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

D\u00fczenlenecek olan \u00fc\u00e7 konferans\u0131n ba\u015fl\u0131ca hedefi insanlar\u0131 bir araya getirerek fikirleri payla\u015fmak ve kal\u0131c\u0131 i\u015fbirlikleri geli\u015ftirmek olsa da, seyahat etmesi m\u00fcmk\u00fcn olmayan, ancak konu ile ilgilenen kat\u0131l\u0131mc\u0131lar i\u00e7in konferans hibrit \u015fekilde d\u00fczenlenecek, b\u00f6ylece baz\u0131 bildiriler uzaktan sunulabilecek ve oturumlar \u00e7evrimi\u00e7i olarak takip edilebilecektir. Konferans halka a\u00e7\u0131kt\u0131r, ancak hem fiziki kat\u0131l\u0131m hem de online kat\u0131l\u0131m i\u00e7in kay\u0131t gereklidir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
