On May 11, 2021, members of the Program&#8217;s &#8218;Natural Sciences&#8216; Working Group met to discuss further collaborative research and the management and publication of research data.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-05083a9 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"05083a9\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-a071c67\" data-id=\"a071c67\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2d68636 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"2d68636\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Connected virtually from their home universities or home offices in Berlin, Cologne, M\u00fcnster and Frankfurt, the meeting began with brief updates on the progress of work in each project. It was impressive to see the progress that has been made despite the restrictions imposed by the pandemic in the last year. It was also the first opportunity to hear the new colleague in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dainst.blog\/entangled-africa\/en\/p08-climcellmed-en\/\">ClimCellMed project<\/a>, Mansour Mdawar, who presented the dendrochronological work on juniper trees from Turkey and Lebanon. Based on own, new data and data compilation these entanglements are discussed (Focus projects: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dainst.blog\/entangled-africa\/en\/p05-cultivated-landscapes-en\/\">Cultivated landscapes<\/a> &amp; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dainst.blog\/entangled-africa\/en\/p06-degree-en\/\">DeGree<\/a>).\n<ul>\n \t<li><strong>Vegetation maps<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\nBased on own new data and the compilation of published data, vegetation maps including major landscape elements, i.e. lakes, for different time slices are under construction in order to explore and visualize issues such as entanglements between palaeo-environments and the spread of the so-called necked axes (focus projects: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dainst.blog\/entangled-africa\/en\/p06-degree-en\/\">DeGree<\/a> &amp; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dainst.blog\/entangled-africa\/en\/p01-necked-axes-en\/\">Necked Axes<\/a>) or other dissemination processes (upcoming issue for the second project phase).\n<ul>\n \t<li><strong>The \u2018Rain forest crisis\u2019 and beyond<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\nA distinct palaeo-ecological shift is documented in the rain forests of the Congo Basin. Following the F.A.I.R. data principles, several <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dainst.blog\/entangled-africa\/en\/p05-cultivated-landscapes-en\/\">Cultivated landscapes<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dainst.blog\/entangled-africa\/en\/p06-degree-en\/\">DeGree<\/a> datasets are being prepared for upload to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.neotomadb.org\/\"><strong>Neotoma<\/strong> <\/a> database platform. Following the November 2020 migration of the database and the recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCRED5fsSanfbhGBs4gt6iBA\">memorial event for the late Eric Grimm<\/a>, the data upload is now picking up speed. A first pollen data set (EMIW566) is already available in the system. More palynological data and the Chad Basin charcoal datasets will follow soon.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-bd6430f elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"bd6430f\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-d771003\" data-id=\"d771003\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9dcba8d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"9dcba8d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In addition, the web services of iDAI.welt are used. First images of charcoals and their site Mege at Lake Chad can already be viewed in <a href=\"https:\/\/arachne.dainst.org\/search?q=SSP2143\"><strong>iDAI.objects\/Arachne<\/strong><\/a>. A possible repository and exchange platform for the data generated by remote sensing is the <a href=\"https:\/\/geoserver.dainst.org\/\"><strong>iDAI.geoserver<\/strong><\/a>. The <a href=\"https:\/\/chronontology.dainst.org\/timeline?fq=proveneance:\" data-wplink-url-error=\"true\"><strong>iDAI.chronontology<\/strong><\/a> service can be used for chronological information and the linkage with material culture, for example at Mege. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dainst.blog\/entangled-africa\/en\/p11-data-management-en\/\">Learning through connecting project<\/a> team encourages all participants to contribute relevant data to this flexible &#8222;time-space-volume&#8220; to facilitate collaboration and the identification of connections within the SPP.<\/p><p>The outcome of the DFG-review of projects which applied for a second phase of funding will now be critical to the implementation of the planned collaborative research and data management work.
