Das Kongobecken, in dem sich die gr\u00f6\u00dften tropischen Torfgebiete der Welt befinden, birgt in der Cuvette Centrale etwa 30 Milliarden Tonnen Kohlenstoff. Erste Studien ergaben vielf\u00e4ltige Torfablagerungen in unterschiedlichen geomorphologischen und hydrologischen Umgebungen, mit ausgedehnten Torfdomen in interfluvialen Becken und flussnahen Torfgebieten, die hydrographischen Netzwerken folgen.
