initial\">Since 2022, the &#8218;Volta-German Shared Colonial Heritage Project&#8216;, led by\nJ\u00f6rg Linst\u00e4dter, Cornelia Kleinitz and Wazi Apoh, has been dedicated to the\ncolonial-period \u2018shared heritage\u2019 of the former German colony of Togo\/Togoland\nin present-day eastern Ghana. The cooperation project builds on extensive\nmultidisciplinary research on the German missionization and colonization of\nTogoland under the direction of Wazi Apoh and is dedicated to the joint\ninvestigation of colonial-period material heritage in today&#8217;s Volta Region and\nneighbouring regions.<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size: 10.5pt;line-height: 107%;font-family: Arial, sans-serif\"> <span style=\"background-image: initial;background-position: initial;background-size: initial;background-attachment: initial\">Ghanaian and German team members\ncontribute expertise from the fields of archaeology, history, ethnography,\narchitecture\/building history and surveying\/cartography to the project. <\/span><\/span><\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size: 10.5pt;line-height: 107%;font-family: Arial, sans-serif;background-image: initial;background-position: initial;background-size: initial;background-attachment: initial\">The DAI-KAAK contributes to this &#8217;shared heritage&#8216; project in three\nways: Firstly, in the field of building research in cooperation with the\nDepartment of Architecture\/Historical Building Research at the Ostbayerische\nTechnische Hochschule (OTH) Regensburg; secondly, through GIS applications to\ninvestigate colonial spaces in cooperation with the Chair of Christian\nArchaeology at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universit\u00e4t Erlangen-N\u00fcrnberg; and\nthirdly, through research in various archives and collections, such as the\nBundesarchiv, the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin or the Staatsarchiv Bremen. One of\nthe aims of the project is to document the architectural heritage from the\nGerman colonial era on the basis of archival and field work in close\ncoordination and cooperation with the local authorities and communities and to\ndevelop ideas and concepts for future-oriented reuse scenarios in discourse\nwith local stakeholders. <\/span><\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size: 10.5pt;line-height: 107%;font-family: Arial, sans-serif;background-image: initial;background-position: initial;background-size: initial;background-attachment: initial\">In the town of Kpando, current research is focusing on three building\ncomplexes that represent key aspects of the colonial system of rule: German\nadministration, local authority and Christian mission. A preliminary\ninvestigation and documentation of the buildings in their current condition was\ncarried out in March 2023 in the building complexes of the German colonial\nadministration in Kpando-Todzi as well as the palace of the Paramount Chief and\nCatholic Mission buildings in the city center, and considerations for their\nfurther use were discussed. <\/span><\/p><p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size: 10.5pt;line-height: 107%;font-family: Arial, sans-serif;background-image: initial;background-position: initial;background-size: initial;background-attachment: initial\">The palace complex of the Paramount Chief, for example, may need\nexhibition spaces in the future. Royal regalia might be returned to its\npremises and made accessible to the public that were confiscated by German colonial\nofficials in the early 20th century and taken to the Ethnological Museum in Berlin\nThese objects are currently in the process of restitution.&nbsp;<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\"><\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section
