Excavations and research are conducted by the Orient and Istanbul Departments of the DAI\u00a0in close cooperation with the University of Istanbul and the \u015eanl\u0131urfa\u00a0<span class=\"_Xbe\">Haleplibah\u00e7e<\/span>\u00a0Museum [<a href=\"http:\/\/www.muze.gov.tr\/tr\/muzeler\/sanliurfa-arkeoloji-ve-mozaik-muzesi\">external link<\/a>] and with the permission and support of the\u00a0General Directorate of Cultural Assets and Museums of the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism [<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kultur.gov.tr\/EN\/\">external link<\/a>]. In 2020, the directorship of G\u00f6bekli Tepe passed from the \u015eanl\u0131urfa\u00a0Haleplibah\u00e7e\u00a0Museum to Prof. Necmi Karul (University of Istanbul). In addition to G\u00f6bekli Tepe, Prof. Dr Karul is also the director of the Early Neolithic site at Karahantepe.
